Pastor Kevin Wright
Kevin Wright is a central Illinois native who joined First Covenant Church as its senior pastor in June of 2003. A gifted and powerful speaker (and novelist), he earned both his B.A. and M.A. in Communication from Missouri State University prior to earning a M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago. In addition to serving the Evangelical Covenant Church, Kevin has pastored in both the Evangelical Mennonite Church and the Missionary Church. Prior to moving back to the area, Kevin served as senior pastor at Faith Community Church in Ohio.
Pastor Kevin felt God's calling to return to central Illinois in 2001, just as FCC began what would become a long, hard search for a new pastor. In the meantime, the Lord provided a two year "tent-making" ministry opportunity for Kevin, teaching full-time at Illinois State University as Assistant Director of Forensics and head coach of the debate team (and he still teaches Logic & Critical Thinking on the college level). During this time, God broadened Pastor Kevin's varied life experiences, which included an ongoing dialog with FCC. Over time, it became increasingly clear to everyone involved that FCC was the church that Kevin was called back to central Illinois to pastor. (Ask him the story sometime -- it's fun to see God at work!)
Pastor Kevin's wife, Wendy, is a wonderful partner in life and in ministry, and they have two children, Megan and Alex. As a family, they bring a mix of wisdom, humor, love and energy that is a blessing to the entire FCC congregation.
